Self isolating

So things have all got rather serious around the world. I hope you are all well and taking the necessary precautions to stay well during this time. My school was shut for Monday and Tuesday of this week with a parent testing positive for COVID-19. School is back open today but in consultation with my head of department and doctor, we have decided it is best for me to not go back for the foreseeable future. It is hard to see school being able to stay open for much longer as many staff are isolating and it then becomes unsafe to manage the school. We do have multiple classes happening in the hall being supervised by senior management but this seems a direct contradiction of the government advice to take social distancing measures. We have got an announcement from the education minister at 5pm tonight so that situation may change rapidly.

It has been very unsettling and difficult to know what the best course of action is. As of yesterday churches are shut, theatres and cinemas are shut, community sports etc are also shut so it seems likely we will enter full lockdown in the near future. For my own health I have basically been avoiding contact as much as possible. My lovely flatmates are doing my grocery shopping and they are slowly beginning to join me in working from home too.

Otherwise, I've been doing mostly okay. School has kept my mind occupied and my flatmates have been great a keeping me company in the weekends when missing Ed seems to come out the most. I did actually talk to him today - I want to know how he is and how his family are coping in the current crisis. While it was good to catch up, it was also extremely difficult to hear his voice after nearly a month. But hopefully this will get easier with time and it seems important to maintain contact with those we care about at the moment!
