A job! (and other exciting news)

I am so relieved to be able to say that after many interviews and rejections, God's plan has finally revealed itself. On Friday I went to a German job interview at The Ashcombe School in Dorking (yes, it is really a place). When I arrived I was given 10 minutes to plan a 20 minute lesson that they had set the topic, provided resources for and given me info about the class. Thankfully it was with a German textbook I've used in NZ and on a very straightforward topic. It didn't stop my heart racing though with the adrenaline of having to come up with something so quickly! I then had an interview with the Head teacher and one of the deputies. Again, they didn't ask anything I hadn't thought about before so that actually felt quite relaxed. After a quick break, I taught my lesson which went really well and then went straight into an interview with the Head of Languages. It was good to be interviewed by someone who actually knew what kind of questions to ask about language specific teaching and share thoughts and ideas on how to do it well. Right at the end the Head said she just quickly needed to test my language skills but her German wasn't great so we had to do it in Spanish! That made me panic a bit but she didn't ask anything difficult which was a huge relief! When we were done she took me back the office and I waited around while they all got together to discuss me (cause that isn't stressful at all). The Head came out and offered me the job! Hooray! It is a one year maternity cover but they seemed optimistic that if everything went well and we still liked each other at the end, then they might be able to turn it permanent. Of course, I may want to come home by then anyway which means this would be ideal. So that is September sorted and I have got myself a job at a language school teaching English for the summer so I know I can keep paying the rent!

In other exciting news, I spent this weekend sailing from Southampton to Portsmouth and back with my boyfriend Ed, a friend of his (Ben), and Ben's girlfriend. Now, don't anybody freak out - yes you read that right. I figured it was about time I told you about Ed....I have his permission to tell you a bit about us! Some friends back at home in NZ had recommended Bumble and I thought I'd take a step out in faith and give it a go about a month after I arrived here. I do really recommend it as an app girls because it gives you all the power and it means you can't be contacted by creeps (always good right?). So Ed and I matched, got chatting online, decided to meet up, went to Greenwich for our first date (7 hours later we figured it was all going pretty well), and have been seeing each other for about two months now. This weekend we decided to make things a little more official and dada, I have a boyfriend. Anyway, back to the sailing. Sailing is a big part of Ed and Ben's lives so they were keen for us girls to come out for a weekend. I was definitely up for it but Ben's girlfriend hadn't really sailed much so we were hoping for stunning weather. Well, it is England in June so we probably should have expected the 25 knot winds gusting 30 knots and one metre swells. Ben's girlfriend was seasick the whole trip on Saturday and I was very glad to have had my anti-nausea patch on. Very exciting sailing with showers of rain coming through and the boat heeled well over. I think we were all rather glad to make it to Portsmouth and go out to the pub to warm up! Ben's girlfriend decided to take the train on Sunday which left the three of us to sail back and it was much sunnier though still very windy and waves crashing over the boat made us all a little damp! All in all a great weekend!
Ed and I in the brief patch of sunshine on Sunday!
